What makes you unique as an athlete?

I have never shown any great physical talent, and there is nothing in my background either, that leads up to any triathlon discipline. Probably what makes me unique is the many years of constant hard work to become a better triathlete. A the same time I work with developing talent and elite sports in my day-job in athletics, which in fact provides me with a number of useful tools and food for thought in relation to my own career in sport.

I approach my sport with humility and respect, and I feel I am privileged to be able to do it at a professional level, even though I have a full-time job as well. My daily life is packed full, and I usually train early in the morning and late in the afternoon or evenings, which is often quite demanding and not particularly optimal. But I have a strongly supportive milieu around me, a good coach, and not least, a girlfriend with the same lifestyle. I enjoy the process and the constant development I undergo.

What’s your best performance(s)?

2019

4th place in the Lanzarote Ironman

4th place in Challenge Herning (Danish middle distance championships)

4th place in the Kalmar Ironman

4th place in the Almere-Amsterdam Challenge (3rd place in the ETU Long Distance Championships)

Which performance has influenced you the most?

My first Ironman on Lanzarote in 2009 meant an enormous lot to me. At that time I was working as a Green Team’er for Club La Santa, so a lot of my colleagues, friends and family came and cheered me on. It was in fact my very first tri-event, and I had decided to go for the toughest Ironman in the world. It sparked something off in me that has kept me going in triathlon for ten years.

Then in 2019 I came back to the volcanic island as a professional. I delivered a solid performance, which got me a 4th place. It was really quite an emotional occasion, coming back to the place where it all started.

What does FUSION equipment mean to you during training and in competition?

Fusion’s functionality means I can train in any conditions. Whether it is cold and raining, or 40 degrees and baking sun, I always have a set of clothing to suit the weather. This helps me to perform when I am training, and at the same time minimises risks, for example of illness.

When my days are so tightly packed, I have to train when I can, and not necessarily when the weather is good. It is not possible for me to go south all winter, so a lot of the time I train in the Danish weather. Fusion sportswear is designed for Nordic conditions, and with the broad line of kit for cycling and running I have top quality for my training regardless of the weather.

When I am racing, I know I have the best suit in the field. Fusion’s almost obsessive attention to detail means I am sure of having a suit that is aerodynamic and technically superb. At the same time the suit is comfortable and doesn’t cause trouble like chafing marks or pressure sores, in spite of all the hours I am on the go.

What other sponsors do you have and how do they help you become a better athlete?

Aarhus 1900 Triathlon is my home club and makes fantastic training facilities available. At the same time I am a member of Aarhus 1900 Elite Triathlon who provides a training environment with some of the best national and international triathletes.

Bikelab.dk represented by Henrik Crone Köser help with positioning on the bike and ensure that I am sitting aerodynamically and can perform at my best. Henrik is extremely thorough and attentive to details, and we have had lots of intense discussions about possibilities for optimisation.

Aqua Sphere: provide my wetsuit and swimskin. Aqua Sphere is a brand that has been in the game for many years, and they supply some of the best wetsuits on the market.

Cycling sponsor: I am looking for a cycling sponsor for 2019 …
